Surge is an annual collegiate discipleship retreat that serves as a catalyst for spiritual growth and a support to discipleship in the local church. At Surge, we accomplish this through the preaching of God’s word, worship, small group discussions, and connecting students to authentic community.

Dan Diffey loves Jesus and was saved at the end of high school when he was 18 years old. Jesus changed the trajectory of his life and he began to pursue ministry during college while he participated in, and served at, the BSU (the old school name for Christian Challenge). Dan met his wife Anne in college and they have been married for 25 years. They have three kids.
He is also pastor at New Covenant Community Church in Chandler, AZ. He began pastoring at New Covenant when it was planted in the Spring of 2024. He has served as an elder/pastor at churches in Louisville, KY and Phoenix, AZ. He is also professor of Old Testament at Grand Canyon University. He has taught at GCU since the fall of 2012. Dan has his PhD in Old Testament from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
